Tell us a bit about the projects you’re working on?
I consider myself very fortunate that at Connected, I’m able to work with diverse clients, from a Fortune 50 automotive brand to a category-defining home fitness equipment manufacturer. Currently, I’m most engaged in project Jupiter, which is in collaboration with the aforementioned popular fitness equipment manufacturing company to enhance their member experience across various verticals.
While the projects are both challenging and rewarding, one of my favourite parts of working here is supporting various Guild Initiatives outside of regular work with our partners. In the last few years, I’ve been lucky enough to welcome 100+ new Connectors remotely to the Engineering Guild, watching them grow in their careers. Another initiative close to my heart is the Internship program, where I support and mentor budding software engineers from different universities. I get a thrill out of working with students as it keeps me humble and reminds me of how far I’ve come.
What’s the most interesting challenge about the project?
In terms of Project Jupiter, one must be wary of any minor changes or fixes as the product is live and could affect millions of members on the platform. The most challenging part of this project was building some really cool and exciting features while maintaining a consistent interactive user experience across various platforms in a very short time.
Where did you work before Connected?
For as long as I can remember, my world has revolved around phones or mobile development. Prior to Connected, I was an Android Developer for Techs4Biz on their flagship product called Pervidi, a multilingual paperless inspection software suite. And before that, I worked with Ericsson Global as a Network Engineer, where I worked on various networking platforms.
What achievement are you most proud of in your career to date?
I was extremely fortunate to work on Project Durian for an automobile company, building out their in-car digital experience that enabled private and carpooling riders to be aware of their trip details throughout their journey. Being involved in this dual-track project from the very beginning, I had the privilege of ideating and prototyping several user-centred designs. It was challenging to test several technologies on confined and limited automobile platforms and yet, still, make sure the best in-car experience is being provided. It was a treat gathering all the learning from the discovery phase to further develop the product and release it to the market.
Do you have a mantra you live by?
Take one day at a time as “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get” – a quote from the movie – Forrest Gump
What do you love to do outside of work?
I love travelling and hanging out with family and friends. It’s simple, which is a nice contrast to the complexity I often encounter professionally.
If you were stuck on a deserted island, what album, movie, and book would you take with you?
Album – Jordi by Maroon 5
Movie – The Shawshank Redemption
Book – The Martian by Andy Weir, and the obvious reason for this is I found it incredibly inspiring that the main character was able to survive on Mars with just potatoes. If he can do that, I can definitely survive this planet.
Describe yourself in three words.
Enterprising, organized, and adaptable.
And finally, what’s your favourite product and why?
The product that makes my life easy every day is my Shark Robotic Vacuum. The advancement of AI in this product is truly mesmerizing. Some of the most practical and useful features that I love include memory mapping, navigation, a self-cleaning brush, and a self-emptying bin.

Plugging In: How Going Remote-First Is Challenging Our Engineers to Collaborate More Deliberately
Going remote-first isn’t just giving our engineers the freedom to do their best work. It’s challenging them to define what and how they’ll achieve it, forcing them to work together more deliberately - in pairs and across projects. And that’s an excellent thing.

Connector Spotlight: Ryan Lim
What does Ryan Lim, Director of Engineering, Practice, do outside of work? Most might know that he is occupied with video games, but you likely didn’t know that he’s also quite the handyman. While he’d describe himself as chill, curious, and creative, knowing that he can renovate floors, tile, drywall, electrical and plumbing, we’d also like to add capable to that list. Whether it’s letting his imagination flow while working on a project or playing with his favourite stackable blocks (can you guess what his favourite product is?), rest assured that the only vendetta from Ryan you need to worry about is in a movie. Discover more about Ryan in this week’s Connector Spotlight!
